An award-winning poet, writer of short stories, plays, and the occasional short film, Steven is a regular cabinet of creative curiosities. Perpetually in search of "le mot juste," and a staunch believer in the visual power of language, wordsmithing is his bread and butter.
Born and raised in Denver, Steven graduated from the University of Colorado-Denver with a degree in English and Creative Writing. With a dictionary and a stack of French poetry books, he taught himself some of the language, then moved to France to explore, travel, and continue his studies. Eventually earning his masters degree and PhD in 20th-century literature at the Université de Lorraine, he has taught everything from American poetry to British civilization to media literacy at that university, and later at the Université Grenoble-Alpes. During summers leading workshops in photography, video, and creative writing, he and R.C. became fast friends. After thirteen years as an ex-pat, he returned to his home state.
When he is not reading one of any number of books, Steven is most likely to be found playing music and writing songs. He's also quite fond of discussing ideas⎯big or small, silly or serious⎯and wandering around outdoors (with a head full of songs and stories to write).
